Has America entered a period of political insanity? Our media giants hire meglomanics who can and do say anything regardless of its validity, and it is referred to as news. No statement is too absurd, too obscene to shriek at the American public, and such things are repeated endlessly until their listening public either tunes out or believes whole-heartedly.
We have would-be politicians who create one distraction after another, raking in money while the economics of this country barely skim above outright depression. These are not politicans or political leaders, they are American idols, continously puffed up by media coverage and who spew continuous irrelevant and insane verbage. The real insanity is in the minds of those who believe them.
We have elected officials who will block any legislation that does not directly benefit the increasingly thin layer of the upper crust of American society. With government as the only entity large enough to curb the engorged American trusts known as corporations, these officials seek to starve the beast of government, and the media takes up the cry until some disaster requires government intervention. Then, government is to blame for its laxity. Insane!
Behind it all is fear, fear that there is a terrorist under every bed, fear that gays in bed with each other threatens the sanctity of male/female marriage, fear that their particular religion is not runnng the country in the right direction, fear that a black president will signal the end of white supremacy, fear that the government will take away their right to shoot whom they please, and certainly fear that elected officials will require the public to pay taxes for the cost of governing. The most obvious fear is that family bread-winners will not be able to hold the family's assets or the family together, and that fear is justified.
While the world watches and waits for our insanity to pass, we lose ground while other nations deal with actual problems with a semblance of reality. Time to wake up and get the anarchists and the sovereign citizens under control. Civilization must have laws, and those laws must apply equally in a democracy such as ours.
